PARIS IN TEXAS, 2024 HOLIDAY PARTY
On October 5th, the Alliance Française de Dallas hosted a unique symposium celebrating the history of the La Réunion colony. Founded in 1855 by French, Belgian, and Swiss immigrants, La Réunion was a bold experiment in communal living, blending ideals of socialism, cooperation, and artistic expression.
The event brought together historians, descendants of the colony, and enthusiasts to explore the colony's origins, cultural impact, and lessons for modern Dallas. Attendees enjoyed presentations, panel discussions, and rare archival exhibits.
Opening remarks were given by Valerie Baraban, Consul General of France in Houston. The symposium, held at Turner House in Oak Cliff, was organized by the Alliance Française de Dallas in partnership with the City of Dallas, Office of Arts and Culture, Deep Vellum, Texas Historical Foundation, and Preservation Dallas.
